Het seizoen 2023-2024 is alweer aan zijn einde.

Vorige jaar werd er geschreven dat het niet het meest memorable seizoen van G.B. was. Helaas werd dit seizoen bijn een copy van vorig jaar. Maar dit keer lag het aantal forfaits wegens geen spelers nog hoger. 10 matchen moeten afzeggen wegens spelerstekort. Dat is vrij dramatisch. Het begon nochtans vrij goed , maar naarmate de wedstrijden elkaar opvolgden haakten meer en meer spelers af. Na nieuwjaar werd het alleen maar erger. Uiteindelijk volgenden de forfaits elkaar snel op.Marnick en zijn team deden er nochtans alles aan om spelers bij elkaar te krijgen. Uiteindelijk hebben door hun zoektocht 39 spelers de kleuren van G.B. verdedigd.

Er werden 24 matchen gespeeld. 15 daarvan winnend afgesloten, 6 verloren en 3 gelijk. Op zich geen slechte cijfers. De belangrijke debys liepen niet allemaal goed af. Tegen ODT werd de eerste match nog 3-3 gelijk gespeeld, maar het volgend treffen kreeg G.B. een forfaitscore om de oren.. Ook tegen de Gul werd stevig verloren, gelukkig trok G.B. in het laatste treffen aan het langste eind door onverwacht op de Gul te gaan winnen. Onze andere buur Ubbersel troffen we dit seizen maar 1 maal. Deze wedstrijd werd wel winnend afgesloten.

Er werd in total 83 keer gescoord en 54 keer werd er een doelpunt geslikt. Voor het tweede seizoen op rij heeft de speler die het 100 ste doelpunt zou maken dan ook geen vat moeten geven.

Nico werd topschutter met 25 doelpunten, op verre afstand gevolgd door Robin 9 en het duo Kleine Vis/Bossie met 8.

Onze intussen al clublegende Nick Cuppers werd tot man van het seizoen verkozen met 111 punten. Op de tweede plaats Yannick (Vis) 90 stemmen gevolgd door Keizer met 84 punten.

Keizer alias Kris Caubergs. (Of was het andersom) eindigde dan ook nog eens aan de top van de waarheidstabel. 24 op de 24 wedstrijden aanwezig!!!! Van goudwaarde voor onze club.

De strijd voor de gouden Schoen seizoen 2023-2024 zal dus gaan tussen Nico,Nick en Keizer. Dit belooft een spannende verkiezing met zo wie zo een verdiende Winnaar.

De verkiezing gouden Schoen 2022-2023 werd dit jaar traditioneel op het clubfeest gehouden.Kris Geus haalde deze binnen in een tweestrijd tegen de vorige gouden Schoen MK. Het clubfeest was ook weer een success. Lekker eten en veel drinken. Een dike merci aan de organisatoren.

Om volgend seizoen te kunnen opstarten zouden we nog een 3 a 4 spelers moeten kunnen inlijven. Marnick heeft nog een oproep gelanceerd naar iedereen om zich hier achter te zetten. Hopelijk kunnen we in September dan ook voor het 58 ste jaar op rij opstarten.

Tenslotte iedereen nog een fijn verlof toegewenst.

Een lach en een traan.

September 2021. Eindelijk terug voetbal na een hele lange droogte wegens corona. Heel G.B. was super enthousiast om er weer in te vliegen. Iedereen was vastberaden om er een onvergetelijk seizoen van te maken. Het werd ook een onvergetelijk seizoen. Helaas niet alleen van plezier maar ook van menselijk drama waar we nog allemaal stil van worden.

De start was moeizaam. De eerste 4 wedstrijden werd er 2 maal verloren en 2 maal gelijk gespeeld. De trein kwam moeilijk op gang en het echte G.B. moest nog opstaan. Na de eerste zege op de 5de speeldag echter waren we meteen vertrokken. De volgende 25 wedstrijden bleef G.B. ongeslagen. Met 21 overwinningen  en 4 gelijke spelen kon men bijna een perfect rapport voor leggen. De 2-1 nederlaag tegen FC moderne op 23/4 kwam dan ook vrij onverwacht.

“Verliezen is nooit prettig, doch op het terras na de match zat de sfeer er terug wat in en liep niemand er wat verloren bij.”

Dit was de afsluitende zin die de dag erop te lezen was op onze commentaar pagina. Naar wekelijkse gewoonte schreef onze trouwste supporter, bestuurslid en vriend Peter Lenz een leuk relaas van de voorbije zaterdag namiddag. Niemand besefte toen dat dit zijn laatste verslag zou worden. Een dag later maandag 25/4 werd Peter totaal onverwacht naar spoed gebracht. Hij heeft nog tien dagen gevochten voor zijn leven maar helaas kon hij dit gevecht niet winnen.

Heel G.B. bleef verweesd achter. Iedereen zocht steun  bij mekaar  om dit drama te verwerken. De zin om voetbal was even weg, maar al gauw kwam ook het besef dat we toch door moesten. Dat waren we aan onszelf en Lenz verschuldigd. Het teambuiding weekend ging uiteindelijk ook door en was naar verluid voor herhaling vatbaar. De kalender zat de laatste weken wel wat tegen. Er werden wegens omstandigheden een aantal wedstrijden afgelast waardoor buiten een minivoetbal weekend er maar 2 wedstrijden meer gespeeld werden. Hiervan werd er nog eentje gewonnen en de laatste verloren.

Het werd dus een seizoen van ups en downs. Van vreugde ( met onder andere sinds 2 jaar nog eens een geweldig clubfeest) maar helaas ook van verdriet.

Het werd een seizoen van een lach en …

Hierbij nog enkele cijfers.

Van de 32 gespeelde matchen werden er 22 gewonnen, 6 gelijk gespeeld en 4 verloren.

Er werd 150 gescoord en 60 keer een tegendoelpunt geslikt.

Mk werd topschutter met 45 doelpunten voor Robin 40 en Nico 15

MK werd ook uitgeroepen tot man van het seizoen met 163 punten voor Leeten 147 en Joris 125

Leeten eindigde aan de top van de waarheidstabel voor MK en Keizer.

De strijd voor de gouden schoen zal dan ook gaan tussen onze toppers Leeten en MK.

Tenslotte nog een dikke merci aan iedereen ( spelers en supporters) die zich weer ingezet heeft voor de club. Met speciale dank aan Steven Schuyten en Marnick om week na week onvermoeibaar alles in het werk gezet te hebben om voetbal op zaterdag namiddag mogelijk te maken. Ook aan Geus die zorgde voor het veld en de kantine. Onze voorzitter,bestuur en natuurlijk ook de sponsers . En uiteindelijk ook Postuum aan Lenz voor zijn jarenlange inzet en passie voor de Geren-Bij!
